While we are proud to offer high quality, full service packing and moving to each and every client, those on a budget and do-it-yourselfers can still take advantage of our services while taking steps to cut down on the cost of moving.
We have compiled a list called The Move Crew Moving Guide Each step on this list will save a little time along with a little money, and the more steps you complete the more that money and time adds up. Many of the items on this list are services we are more than happy to do for you, some we just simply are not allowed to do by law or for liability reasons.
Box ALL loose items that you want moved. Having movers load your loose miscellaneous items directly onto the truck adds a significant amount of extra time, because of both the additional trips required to bring them to the truck and the extra time spent packing these items on the truck.
Since loose items do not allow for stable packing of the truck like boxes do, they take up more space and increase the risk of damage. The price of the boxes you will need to pack these items will be made up for by the time saved on your move.
Before the move, discard/donate/sell any items that you do not plan to keep. This reserves space on the truck for your other items and shortens the move time.
Disassembly/assembly is included in our services for your convenience. However, many larger items can be fairly complex to disassemble and reassemble which may add a substantial amount of time to the move. These items include complex bed frames (especially from Ikea), and exercise equipment that won’t fit through a doorway in one piece (larger treadmills and ellipticals (usually if it was assembled in the room it will need some level of disassembly to get it out). By disassembling these items prior to the move and putting them back together at the new location our Crew can focus on the moving. For liability reasons we are not able to reassemble cribs.
Please have electronics (TVs, cable boxes, BluRay/DVD players, computers, video game consoles, etc.) disconnected prior to the move. Having TVs boxed up and ready to be moved will allow us to pack it on the truck more safely and quickly.
At this time, disconnecting and installing electronic systems is not included in our services due to the number and variety of different configurations of entertainment centers, TVs, computers and speaker setups. While we will certainly help when we can, particularly in the case of coaxial cables or phone jacks that are inaccessible until furniture has been removed, it is best to disconnect more complicated systems yourself or have them serviced professionally. For liability reasons, our Crews are not allowed to reconnect any electronics.
Please bare in mind that at each stop we make, it is your responsibility to ensure your driveway and/or sidewalk have been cleared of obstacles.
Vehicles in the driveway, or parked very near the entrance to your driveway, may interfere with parking the truck.
In the winter, remove any snow from the driveway and sidewalks. This is for the safety of your belongings and for the safety of our Crew. It also minimizes the amount of snow being dragged into your home with each trip. While we are more than happy to shovel a sidewalk for you, keep in mind that the time we spend shoveling is still time that you are paying for.
As a rule of thumb, the heavier the contents, the smaller the box should be! Instead of packing the largest box with the heaviest items, pack them in small boxes instead. Also, ensure that each box is closed properly and taped shut. This way you can be sure the boxes are able to support the weight and your movers can keep moving at full speed.
Clearly label each box. This will save your time and your sanity because your Crew will be able to quickly move boxes to the correct spot without asking you for direction.
By law, we cannot disconnect gas or water lines on stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators or any other appliances. Please have these disconnected in advance to prevent any delay during your move.
For apartment and office buildings with multiple elevators, check with a building manager or maintenance personnel to find out if it is possible to reserve an elevator for your movers. If reserving an elevator is not possible, find out when there is the most elevator traffic and we will work with you to schedule your move around these busy times when possible.
If you are moving to or from a location with busy streets, reserve enough parking spaces as close to the entrance as possible.
Our trucks are 26’ long with a ramp that extends out another 15'. The closer we are to the move, the less time is spent going back and forth to the truck.
When possible, please arrange to have a babysitter or petsitter for the duration of your move. While we love kids and pets, the extra care required when moving with children or pets present may slow down the process and add time to your move.
